A MESSAGE FROM OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
The catastrophe that occurred in Nepal on Saturday has profoundly affected all of us here at the LÉGER FOUNDATION. This is why our organization is putting together a team of volunteers that will leave for Katmandu on April 28. Coordinated by Anna Tyszkiewicz, our Program Manager for Asia, this team will join our local coordinator in Katmandu, our Nepalese partner agencies, and the team from GlobalMedic and will work closely with local authorities, UN coordination bodies, and the communities affected.
Our priorities are drinking water and children. We will contribute to this effort first by distributing drinking water and setting up water purification systems and temporary shelters. We will also support our partner agencies working on the ground in Nepal as well as anyone affected by the earthquake. The agencies that we support in the region work with children who are victims of violence and sex trafficking and who, given the recent catastrophe, are even more exposed. The LÉGER FOUNDATION’s post-earthquake initiatives will also include providing psychosocial support to underprivileged children in the stricken areas.
This situation is evolving quickly, and we hope to keep you informed about how things are going in the field. We will therefore provide regular updates via our website and social media in the coming days.
In closing, I would like to reiterate my sincere support for our Nepalese brothers and sisters who have been directly or indirectly affected by this tragedy.
Executive Director, LÉGER FOUNDATION
