Protecting the children of Kilifi

Partner : Kesho

Country : Kenya

According to a 2010 UNICEF report, approximately 8 million children in Kenya are at risk from systemic physical and physiological abuse. As authorities continue to face significant challenges in enforcing child protection laws, child abuse is reaching crisis status in that nation.

In collaboration with Kesho, the LÉGER FOUNDATION supports children’s rights in the regions of Kilifi and Ganzé through education and awareness programs aimed at parents at schools. One project aims to reverse the norm of corporal punishment in schools by helping implement new codes of conduct that uphold child safety, including formal procedures and consequences for violation. It’s a strategy that aims to change the region’s perceptions about child rights, one step at a time.
